bonded rubber mulch

Bonded Rubber Mulch is a popular playground surface that can be used in a variety of settings. It is a recycled product made from coloured SBR tyre granules and shred which is combined with a binder to create a natural bark looking surface, which blends well with many surroundings.

The Resin that Binds

Bonded Rubber Mulch is a consistent and stable surface which is also permeable, so will allow drainage and water to get to plant and tree roots.

One of the most important aspects to consider with Bonded Rubber Mulch surfaces is the installation of an appropriate subbase to ensure longevity of the surface, an even finish and adequate drainage.

What can it be used for?

Bonded rubber mulch is a versatile surface which can be used for a wide range of purposes from making a large space accessible all year-round, to toddler-friendly seating areas. Some of the key uses include:

  • Landscaping
  • Daily Mile Tracks
  • Safety Surfacing
  • Pathways

Sub-bases

Our bonded rubber mulch surfaces can be laid directly onto a solid surface (e.g. tarmac, concrete).

For any installation of bonded rubber mulch onto a soil/grass area we recommend the installation of a stone sub-base is to aid longevity, provide additional water drainage, and to prevent uneven settlement of the surface.

The depth of the sub-base will vary depending on the ground conditions, be it soft clay soil, stony ground, or where there are many tree roots in situ. A minimum of 50mm depth of sub-base material, usually MOT Type 1, laid over a geotextile membrane is sufficient.

Depending on the sub-base stone type, the surface will also require a thin layer of grit sand to ensure a flat, smooth surface.

We are absolutely thrilled with the new play equipment which was installed over the Easter holidays.

The equipment includes lots of different sections, and the ground area around the equipment has been levelled out and resurfaced, making it a much more usable space.

Thank you.

Everyday access to learning and recreation can present many challenges to those with a complex physical disability. It was really important to us to find a partner that listened and truly understood the outcomes we were looking for when planning our outdoor learning centre and dbdplay did exactly that.
